The Eye

The Eye is our debut album, forged over nearly ten years. Along the way we lost bandmates and found new ones, and pieced together the fragments of a dream, step by step, through a pandemic and the search for our own voice.

Twelve tracks. It opens with an instrumental of the same name, a whisper that swells into a slow, solemn roar: eyes opening. From there a voice speaks to a "you" that slowly turns out to be the speaker, following a river from a drop on a mountaintop to the sea, through rain, fire and a north wind no one can stop. The sixth song splits the record in two. The last one is not meant to be understood.

Like a mirror, The Eye reflects our gaze back at us, mercilessly yet honestly. Through a constant interplay of tension and release, it leads toward a deeper awareness of our choices and of the consequences of every action taken or left undone, every word spoken or left unsaid.

Listen to the very end.

Written, recorded, mixed and produced by Exyre.

Story

Our name is our true mission statement. The word Exyre has no real meaning. Actually… we made it up, but consciously. It’s related to desire. That’s why we say Exyre as it rhymed with desire.

Desire comes from the Latin desiderare. Sidera is Latin for stars. If you look at the stars and wait for what they have to give, then what you are doing is siderare. If you decide not to wait for what’s coming from the stars because you want something different, then what you are doing is de-siderare. That’s what desire means.

We all used to both desire and wait for something special to come our ways. When we got sick of this, we threw away everything and left for a new horizon. We left the stars where they belong and came out of them. Just like desire is de-siderare, exire is ex-siderare: getting out of the stars.

Exire was a great name, but something was still missing. We needed a symbol to represent everyone’s freedom of choice. What’s the question of the free people? The only question you can’t ask if you must obey: why? Why is the only question we all need. Why. Y. Look at this letter: it’s shaped like a choice: you can go either left or right, it’s up to you. Every time you wonder “why”, your universe splits into two.

Now, make your choice. If you are with us, then you are a Chooser.
